BLENDED LEARNING TEACHER OF THE WEEK:
MS. SCHULTZ
Q. How long have you been teaching?
I have been at Hanford Dole a little over 4 years, prior to that I taught Pre-K and Kindergarten in New York.
Q. What grade do you teach?
5th Grade
Q. How has your first year went with BL implementation?
Our blended learning journey this year has been phenomenal. It has pushed me as a teacher, and our students have truly benefitted from it. We began using the station rotation model and based on students needs, concerns, and feedback, we have created an individual rotation through personalized playlists. What I love about blended learning is that I can still use my teaching style and create hands on lessons embedded in our playlists.
Q. How has BL changed your thoughts about teaching?
One of my goals each year is to continue to work to differentiate and reach each of my students. In the past I've always thought it was so hard to reach your lowest students while pushing your highest at the same time. With blended learning I really feel that my lower students are getting the personalized instruction and remediation they need, whereas my AIG students are really getting pushed to their potential and receiving the enrichment that they need. I truly feel that blended learning has helped me reach all of my students.
Q. If you had one word to describe BL what would say and why?
Insightful. With blended learning I truly know where each of my students are at the end of every day. I feel like our journey has been so eye-opening because students are not "falling through the cracks". I'm able to see their needs and reach them immediately.
