Station Rotation Model--Are Kindergarten students ready?? Day 14

Mrs. Coble's K Class implementing the station rotation model!
Some questions to ponder as you begin your BL implementation at the elementary level.  Are Kindergarten students to young or immature to begin the station rotation model for blended learning implementation? Should we wait until they are in 1st or 2nd grade to start rotations? Should we wait until second semester when they understand the expectations of school and are more independent? When is the right time to start implementing blended learning? To me, the answer is that if you start implementing in K you have waited to long. I firmly believe that students in Pre-K can begin the process immediately. Actually, this is the best time for them to learn the processes and procedures. I was able to observe the clockwork like precision that Mrs. Coble's kindergarten class performed today. This is a great age to start developing proper habits on rotations, independent work, guided work, and online instruction. These healthy habits will then grow and develop as they advance in school. How to use the iPad for instructional purposes that is connected to the work they are doing in the guided station and online station brings about the personalization and individualization the students need to either remediate or enrich. Students were learning at their own pace! As you continue to consider you K students in your blended learning implementation I encourage you to jump in feet first because they are ready!
